EKOPAK NEWSLETTER – SECOND QUARTER OF 2025

This quarter was marked by numerous important events, new partnerships, international promotion, infrastructure investments, educational initiatives, and a strong push for packaging waste recycling across local communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

International Promotion of Ekopak's Results
Our 2024 results were recognized at the international level. The umbrella organization EXPRA (Extended Producer Responsibility Alliance) featured Ekopak in the latest edition of its newsletter. The article published on their official website highlighted key figures from Ekopak’s 2024 Annual Report, reaffirming our commitment to developing a not-for-profit extended producer responsibility system. We thank our dear colleagues and friends from EXPRA. As a proud member of this prestigious organization Ekopak will continue to apply best European practices in the system development.

Interview for AmCham BiH
The beginning of the second quarter was marked by an interview with Director of Ekopak, Amela Hrbat, for the newsletter of the American Chamber of Commerce in BiH (AmCham BiH). The interview presented the company’s business principles, achievements, and plans for further development of the packaging waste recycling system. We thank to management of AmCham for following our work.

Infrastructure Investments
Ekopak funded the procurement of a new baling press machine for packaging waste for PUC Rad Ključ, continuing a successful partnership. The results are already visible through increased amounts of packaging waste delivered to the recycling system, contributing to a reduction of municipal waste at the local landfill.

Collaboration with PUC Komrad Bihać
Ekopak Director Amela Hrbat hosted the newly appointed Director of PUC Komrad Bihać, Mr. Edin Moranjkić. The meeting emphasized the importance of developing primary waste sorting at the source, a strategic priority for both sides – Ekopak and Komrad.

Participation in Fairs and Conferences
Ekopak took part in the International Economic Fair in Mostar, presenting its role as the first licensed packaging waste recycling system operator in BiH, in cooperation with our partner Aida Commerce.
We also supported the organization of the eComm and GS1 conferences. Sets of containers for selective waste disposal were provided for the events. A total of 790 bottles of packaging waste were collected, handed over to PUC Rad, and sent for recycling.

Zenica Waste Forum
At the Zenica Waste Forum, Ekopak gave a presentation on the development of the packaging waste recycling system in BiH, focusing on achieved results, education, and cooperation with local communities.

Earth Day and World Environment Day
To mark Earth Day and World Environment Day, numerous educational and promotional activities were organized across BiH:

Tomislavgrad: “Packaging for a flower and the world will be beautiful again!” – event in cooperation with PUC Tomislavgrad.
Sarajevo: Within the project “Our Power, Our Planet,” an event was held at the Paromlinska 64 recycling yard in Sarajevo with students and citizens.

Cooperation with Swedish Delegation in Bihać (NORBIH Project)
As part of the NORBIH project, Ekopak visited Bihać, where in cooperation with the City of Bihać and PUC Komrad, presented results and cooperation to a delegation from the Swedish city of Norrköping.

Educational Activities for the Youngest

Bihać and Ključ: Ekopak organized interactive workshops for students of Primary Schools "Harmani 2" and "Ključ", where children learned about the importance of recycling through games and teamwork.
OREA Art Market Sarajevo: Young visitors participated in creative workshops teaching proper packaging waste disposal, developing environmental awareness in an engaging way.

Media Support – Eko Eho
To mark World Environment Day, Ekopak hosted Sanela Habeš, editor of the “Eko Eho” show (BH Radio), for an inspiring conversation about the importance of education and recycling in BiH.

Initiative in Mostar
In cooperation with the Environmental Protection Fund of HNC/C, the Student Center of the University of Mostar, and the Mostar International Airport, Ekopak supported the establishment of a selective packaging waste disposal system.

Together, We Continue to Build a Better System
We thank all partners, institutions, companies, public utility companies, schools, and citizens who contribute daily to building an efficient and sustainable recycling system.
Ekopak will continue with the same enthusiasm and responsibility in the next quarter, with the goal of making Bosnia and Herzegovina a model of best practices in packaging waste management.

We wish you a pleasant summer. Ww will reach out again in early autumn.

Until then, warm regards,
