In accordance with Article 26 of the Regulation on Packaging and Packaging Waste Management of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH), Ekopak has submitted “Annual Report on Packaging and Packaging Waste Management for 2025” to the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism and the Environmental Protection Fund of the Federation of BiH.

The results for 2025 confirm the continued stable operation of the Ekopak system, with both achievement and exceedance of the prescribed recycling targets for packaging waste.

By type of packaging material, the targets were exceeded as follows:

  • Glass – 2.309 tonnes (target achieved at 101%)
  • Metal – 767 tonnes (target achieved at 102%)
  • Paper – 16.182 tonnes (target achieved at 103%)
  • Plastic – 3.174 tonnes (target achieved at 103%)
  • Wood – 937 tonnes (target achieved at 101%)
  • Hazardous packaging – 110 tonnes (target achieved at 103%)

On behalf of nearly 1,000 producers, importers, and distributors, Ekopak submitted 22.972 tons of packaging waste for recycling-equivalent to approximately 1.300 truckloads-thereby meeting the legally prescribed target of 42%. Additionally, at least 5% of these quantities were required to be separated from municipal waste. Ekopak exceeded this requirement as well, achieving 7%.

In 2025, the system of collection and preparation for recycling of packaging waste included 26 collectors from all 10 cantons of the Federation of BiH. This includes 13 public utility companies collecting all types of packaging waste from municipal waste, as well as 13 private companies engaged in packaging waste collection and preparation for recycling.

All of this was achieved with a team of only four employees and at the lowest sustainable costs, ensuring that there were no market disruptions or increases in the prices of packaged products.

In this way, Ekopak demonstrates its commitment to establishing a legal, transparent and efficient system for the separate collection and recycling of packaging waste in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, aligned with best European practices and standards, at the lowest sustainable cost and for the benefit of the entire community.

“Another successful year is behind us, in which we confirmed the stability of the system and achieved our targets. These results are the outcome of joint efforts by all our partners—from clients to collectors—and confirm that continuous investment and cooperation lead to tangible results. Ekopak will continue to further develop the system with the goal of increasing packaging waste recycling rates,” said Amela Hrbat, Director of Ekopak.
