Gračanica, 27 October 2026 – What happens to packaging after we finish a drink, use a product, or open a cardboard box? This everyday question was the starting point for an educational workshop organised by Ekopak and CETAP at Druga osnovna škola in Gračanica.

The workshop was held as part of the “The Smile of the Planet Is in Your Hands” project, which teaches pupils about the importance of separating packaging waste and recycling it.

Pupils learned about different types of packaging and how to dispose of them properly, as well as the important fact that packaging waste can only be directed to recycling if it is first properly separated from other municipal waste.

Through practical and educational activities, pupils had the opportunity to connect what they had learned with situations they encounter every day – at school, at home, or on the street. The aim of the workshop was not only to provide information, but also to show children that their everyday decisions, such as where they dispose of an empty bottle, beverage can, or cardboard packaging, play an important role in the recycling system.

The educational workshop in Gračanica is a continuation of the activities implemented by Ekopak and CETAP in schools as part of the new cycle of the “The Smile of the Planet Is in Your Hands” project.

For Ekopak, workshops like this are an important part of system development, as separate collection infrastructure can only deliver its full potential when citizens know how to use it properly. Therefore, alongside investment in the development of the system, particular attention is given to educating children and developing habits that can last a lifetime.
