Significant Increase in Waste Collection at the Paromlinska Recycling Yard in the First Half of 2025
The Paromlinska Recycling Yard in Sarajevo has recorded extremely encouraging results in the first half of 2025, with a significant increase in the amount of collected waste compared to the same period last year.
According to the data analysis for the January–June 2025 period, a total of 185,433 kilograms of waste was collected, which represents an increase of 73.85% compared to 2024, when 106,677 kilograms were collected.
The largest increase was recorded in the category of electrical and electronic waste, which rose from 2,820 kg in 2024 to as much as 12,920 kg in 2025 — an increase of 358%. This category includes small household appliances, cooling devices, large household appliances, TVs, monitors, and fluorescent lamps.
Packaging waste (paper, plastic, glass) also showed a significant increase — from 3,632 kg to 6,322 kg, or 74% more compared to the same period last year.
The category of other waste (bulky waste, construction waste, biowaste, metal, tires, wood) rose by 66%, from 100,215 kg in 2024 to 166,182 kg in 2025.
These results testify to the growing awareness of Sarajevo Canton residents about the importance of proper waste disposal and the increasing use of the recycling yard. Thanks to a well-established system, citizens are enabled to dispose of large quantities of non-hazardous waste free of charge and in one place, thereby reducing illegal dumping around containers and increasing the efficiency of the entire recycling system.
The Paromlinska Recycling Yard is becoming a model of good practice in the development of sustainable management of special waste categories in urban areas.
