The agreement was signed by Amela Hrbat, Director of Ekopak, and Meliha Žuškić, Director of Deponija Mostar. Under the agreement, Ekopak has committed to financing the procurement of an industrial baler and a vehicle for transporting packaging waste, while Deponija Mostar will transfer the collected packaging waste through the Ekopak system for recycling.

This investment represents an important step in restoring Deponija Mostar’s capacities following the recent fire, particularly those required for the collection, transport, and preparation of packaging waste for recycling.

The importance of the investment is further reinforced by Deponija Mostar’s new role in the separate waste collection system. Under a decision adopted by the Mostar City Council on 9 July 2026, Deponija Mostar was given responsibility for the separate collection of recyclable materials within the city. The procurement of an industrial baler and a vehicle will provide the necessary technical conditions for carrying out these activities and increasing the quantities of packaging waste that, instead of being disposed of, will be separated and directed to recycling.

“Through this investment, we want to support Deponija Mostar in restoring and developing the capacities required for the separate collection of packaging waste. It is particularly important that the collected quantities will be directed to recycling through the Ekopak system. This is a concrete example of how cooperation between a system operator and a local community can contribute to the development of the necessary municipal infrastructure and create the conditions for separating greater quantities of packaging waste from municipal waste,” said Amela Hrbat, Director of Ekopak.

The signed agreement also represents the implementation investment of Ekopak under the Public Call of the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism, aimed at coordinating the activities of the Ministry, system operators, and local communities, as well as supporting investments by system operators in the development of systems for the collection and recycling of packaging waste and waste electrical and electronic equipment. Ekopak and ZEOS eko-sistem are the system operators participating in the implementation of the Public Call.

For Ekopak, cooperation with Deponija Mostar is part of its continuous investment in the development of infrastructure for the separate collection of packaging waste in local communities. The new equipment will enable more efficient collection, transport, and preparation of packaging waste, while Ekopak will ensure through its system that the collected waste is subsequently directed to recycling.
