A BHRT crew visited Ekopak today regarding the glass packaging collection initiative being implemented by Ekopak and KJKP RAD during the Sarajevo Film Festival.

EKOPAK and KJKP RAD are inviting cafés, restaurants and pubs in central Sarajevo to apply by 12 August 2026 to participate in the separate disposal of glass packaging and thus contribute to a cleaner city, more responsible business practices and the preservation of natural resources.

“We are all aware of the large number of people and tourists who will be in our city during the SFF and who will inevitably generate packaging waste. This is why Ekopak is once again implementing three activities during this year’s film festival. The first, which has become a tradition, is our continued support for Coca-Cola, in partnership with KJKP RAD, in collecting packaging waste from their containers, which will be placed on the streets of Sarajevo and at festival locations. The second activity is promotion—raising public awareness of the importance of recycling packaging waste. The third activity, which we are also implementing in cooperation with KJKP RAD, is the aforementioned initiative and campaign entitled ‘Be in Your Own Film’,” said Amela Hrbat, Director of Ekopak.

She added that this activity is in line with the European Directive and is particularly important for reducing the burden on the Smiljevići landfill, which is already overloaded. She also stated that EKOPAK collected 31 tonnes of glass packaging during last year’s SFF, significantly reducing the burden on the city landfill.
Ms Hrbat used this opportunity to once again invite all cafés, restaurants and pubs in central Sarajevo, particularly those located at festival venues, to apply by 12 August for the glass packaging collection challenge during the SFF.
“Ekopak has provided bins and special bags for the disposal of glass packaging, while representatives of the public utility company will collect and measure the quantities from each establishment. After the festival, we will announce the three hospitality establishments that collected the largest quantities of glass packaging and present them with symbolic awards and gifts, thereby bringing our participation in this activity to a close,” said the Director of EKOPAK.
Hospitality establishments located in the central area of SFF activities may apply to participate in this initiative by 12 August 2026 through:

Glass can be recycled endlessly without any loss of quality, while its proper separation reduces the need for new raw materials, energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Ekopak remains committed to developing systems for the separate collection and recycling of packaging waste, cooperating with public utility companies, improving infrastructure and educating citizens, because every properly disposed piece of packaging represents a small but important step towards a more responsible and sustainable community.
