Ekopak Eco Patrols at the Sarajevo Film Festival
The Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF) gathers thousands of visitors from all over the world every year and represents a true celebration of culture, film, and togetherness.
However, such a large event also brings an increase in the amount of waste generated daily in Sarajevo. To reduce the quantities that would otherwise end up at the Smiljevići landfill and to ensure that plastic and glass bottles and cans are directed into the recycling process, Ekopak promotes recycling and responsible environmental behavior through its Eco Patrols – a unique and recognizable initiative.
What are Eco Patrols?
Eco Patrols are made up of young promoters who are present at various locations in Sarajevo during the festival. Equipped with special backpacks for collecting packaging waste, they allow passers-by and visitors to easily and quickly dispose of their plastic bottles, cans, and other packaging in the right way.
Beyond their practical function, the Eco Patrols also play an educational role. During the festival days, promoters hand out promotional materials and provide information about the importance of separate waste collection, the recycling process, and the contribution each of us can make to protecting the environment.
Reactions from Citizens and Visitors
Citizens of Sarajevo, as well as tourists who come for the SFF, greet our Eco Patrols with great enthusiasm every year. Comments and reactions are extremely positive – many point out that this approach is practical, appealing, and motivating, encouraging them to think more about the packaging waste they generate. Many visitors take photos of the Eco Patrols, share them on social media, and thus further spread the message about the importance of recycling.
Let’s be part of the film too!
This year’s SFF is yet another opportunity to enjoy movies, socializing, and a rich program – but also to show that we care about our city and nature. So, when you see an Eco Patrol, be part of their mission: dispose of your bottle or can, take some promotional material, and learn something new about recycling.
