In Municipality Novo Sarajevo in Paromlinska street 64 (across from Velepekara) a recycling yard for selective waste disposal has officially started with operational work.

In order to improve system of selective waste collection and recycling, PUC RAD with the financial support of the system operator Ekopak and Zeos eco-system, opened a recycling yard where citizens will be able to dispose of packaging waste free of charge: glass, plastic, paper, wood, and electronic waste such as house appliances, computers, light bulbs, bulky and construction waste as well as car tires.

Inside the recycling yard there is also a "RE-USE" house where citizens will be able to bring things they don't want to throw away, but leave them to others for reuse.

"In this way, we provide the opportunity to the citizens of the Sarajevo Canton to dispose of all the listed types of waste in the recycling yard for free, so that the waste is not improperly disposed aside containers", said the director of PUC RAD, Vera Arnautović and added that PUC RAD plans, in the coming period, in cooperation with Canton municipalities to build new recycling yards. So, construction of recycling yards in the area of the municipalities of Ilijaš and Ilidža is underway.

"By acquiring new modern machinery and building recycling yards, PUC RAD is establishing capacities for waste management that already function in many modern European cities and which we want to establish in Sarajevo Canton as well. In this way, dumping of waste next to containers will be prevented, which creates an ugly image of our capital city", said Arnautović.

The construction of the recycling center in Novi Sarajevo was also helped by the FBiH system operators Ekopak and ZEOS eco-system.

"As operator of the packaging waste management system, Ekopak is committed to the implementation of infrastructure development projects that will enable the separate collection of packaging waste at the point of origin, with the purpose of recycling it. One of such projects is the new recycling yard of PUC RAD in Sarajevo which will enable citizens to selectively dispose of all types of packaging waste that can be recycled. On this occasion, we invite citizens and legal entities from Municipality of Novo Sarajevo to use this recycling yard and to dispose of glass bottles and jars, plastic, cardboard boxes, wooden pallets and cans in special containers. This way the amount of mixed municipal waste deposited at the Smiljevići landfill will be reduced and the packaging waste from the recycling yard will be transported to recycling where it will gain a new value," said Ekopak managing director Amela Hrbat.

"Electronic waste falls under hazardous waste that must not end up in a landfill. We use this occasion to invite all citizens of the Sarajevo Canton to dispose of their electronic waste in the recycling center within special containers and thereby help make our environment much cleaner", said assistant director of ZEOS eco-system Elma Babić-Džihanić.
