Project ''From spring to sea'': More than five tons of waste collected during seven clean-up actions throughout BiH

The Coca-Cola project ''From spring to sea'', after successfully implemented waste collection actions in seven local communities throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina, was completed today in Sarajevo.

More than 500 volunteers took part in the actions over the past two months. The event, which officially marked the end of the project, was attended by representatives of institutions and organizations that supported the project as well as media and Sarajevo citizens who joined the last clean-up action.

"I am glad to see so many young people in action today in Sarajevo because in the end, everything we do we do for you and a cleaner city remains for you. Special thanks to our partners from Konzum and Mercator who are with us today. I would also like to thank and welcome the institutions that supported the project and of course the Mayor Mrs. Benjamina Karić, whom we are glad to see and with whom we hope to have the opportunity to work in 2022 when we plan to continue the project even stronger and in even greater volume. Happy cleaning to all and thank you very much for coming ", said Bruno Jelić, Director of the Department for Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, Coca-Cola HBC Adria.

More than a hundred participants, high school and university students as well as other volunteers gathered in Hastahana Park and despite the cold Sarajevo morning, started the cleaning action in four routes - towards the train station, Wilson's promenade and through the center towards the park near the Second Gymnasium.

"I would like to thank Coca-Cola for delighting the citizens of our homeland with its socially responsible actions every year. Thank you for encouraging us to be better and more responsible towards our environment and I hope that the ''From Source to the Sea'' project will be just one in a series of projects that we will implement together. The City of Sarajevo will always give you unreserved support in such projects and we are especially grateful that you give our young people opportunity to show how much they actually have emotions, empathy and knowledge that they need to dedicate and take care of such important topics. I would like to invite all other companies in Bosnia and Herzegovina to follow the example of Coca-Cola, to deal with topics that show social activity and social responsibility. All of us here share our opportunities, share the place where we work, live, breathe the same air, and the topic of this project - responsible waste management is one of perhaps the most important topics today. The more we dedicate ourselves to important environmental issues, the more our environment will give us back. It is in everyone’s interest to work diligently on projects like this. I wish you a happy and successful day and I thank everyone who gave their contribution to make us so proud today" - said Benjamina Karić, Mayor of Sarajevo, addressing the gathered volunteers and partners of the project.

The project ''From spring to sea'' started in Croatia in 2018. and since this year it has been realized for the first time in Bosnia and Herzegovina in cooperation with local NGOs - Eco Center from Višegrad and UG Ruke from Sarajevo. The project activities are focused on cleaning actions, especially areas along the water - rivers and lakes from packaging waste, but not neglecting the land, to encourage citizens to appropriate disposal and separation of waste and especially on the preservation of water resources in Foča, Rudo, Bihać, Tomislavgrad, Tuzla and the last in Sarajevo.

"We are extremely pleased to work with Coca-Cola and have opportunity to contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment in our cities through the From Spring to Sea project, but also to step together towards our goal to initiate and raise environmental awareness of our fellow citizens. Let's do it has been carrying out such cleaning actions for a full 10 years and so far we have collected more than 15 thousand tons of waste. We are looking forward to increasing that number with this project and disposing of waste in the right way. I would like to thank Coca-Cola for placing special emphasis on separate waste collection, as this brings us a strong message that not all waste is garbage but can and must be reused and recycled. I take this opportunity to thank all the participants who took their time today and joined us in this action. In the end, we are sending the message that a world without waste is possible, and our city in that world is even more beautiful, ”said Nejra Šehić on behalf of UG Ruke / Let's do it initiative.
