Entering the "Green Dot" system allowes more than half of the population of Kiseljak municipality to participate in the recycling of packaging waste

Kiseljak Municipality 28.07.2015. at 10.00 am - Handover of the infrastructure for the establishment of five Eco islands, in which citizens will be able to separately dispose packaging waste, was held within JP „Vodovod i kanalizacija“ Kiseljak. The handover was attended by representatives of JP “Vodovod i kanalizacija” Kiseljak and representatives of Ekopak.

Director of JP ‘’Vodovod i kanalizacija’’ Mladen Medić stressed the importance of realization of the contract with Ekopak. ''The goal is to ultimately cover Kiseljak with green islands. Up to now coverage amounts to 45%, and only the rural areas of the municipality are left'' said Medić. The contract provides ongoing purchase of vehicle for the transport of the collected packaging waste.

Ekopak will implement the educational project and carry out various promotional activities aimed at increasing citizens awareness about the importance of recycling of packaging waste in Kiseljak municipality. Together with the existing Eco islands, additional infrastructure will cover more than half the population of the municipality.

The Ordinance on packaging and packaging waste in the Federation BiH obliges all manufacturers, fillers, importers, distributors and retailers to recycle and utilize packaging waste generated in the market after the consumption of their products and at percentage determined by the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism. The fulfillment of the obligation is possible through Ekopak, the first certified system operator, by paying the lowest sustainable fee or by paying significantly higher fees to the Environmental Fund of the Federation of BiH.

Ekopak works on non-profit basis, and all the money from the fees is reinvested in the construction of the Green Dot system - for recycling and recovery of packaging waste in the local community, according to models of other PRO EUROPE members.

"Including a large number of socially responsible companies that have transferred their responsibilities to the first authorized system operator Ekopak enabled financing the purchase of infrastructure, vehicles for transport, supply of equipment, planning area, the construction of a recycling yard, implementation of educational projects and such activities. That is all reinvested in the 14 local communities: Bihać, Gračanica, Orašje, Donji Vakuf, Kladanj, Ključ, Olovo, Breza, Vitez, Novi Travnik, Vogošća, Posušje, Kreševo and Kiseljak. We invite all business entities who are legally obliged to transfer their obligations for the packaging recovery on Ekopak. That will strengthen the platform of the BiH economy gathered around the Ekopak, which at the lowest sustainable cost establishes a transparent, efficient and long-term system of separate collection and recycling of packaging waste", said Hasan Ahmetspahić Assistant Director for Cooperation With The Local Community from Ekopak.
