During the interview, they discussed the importance of separating glass packaging, the role of hospitality businesses in the collection of glass packaging waste, and the joint activities being implemented by Ekopak and KJKP RAD to increase the quantities of glass packaging directed to recycling.

Ekopak Director Amela Hrbat emphasized that the initiative aims to encourage as many cafés, restaurants, and pubs as possible to join the glass packaging waste collection system.

"Every properly separated glass bottle will enter the recycling process instead of ending up at the Smiljevići landfill. Hospitality businesses can make a significant contribution to the separate collection of glass packaging waste, especially during the Sarajevo Film Festival, when considerably larger quantities of this type of packaging waste are generated in the city," said Hrbat.

KJKP RAD Director Emir Dobrača highlighted that, in cooperation with Ekopak, KJKP RAD will provide logistical support for the collection of glass packaging to ensure that as much glass packaging waste as possible is separated from municipal waste and directed to recycling.

During the programme, hospitality businesses located in central Sarajevo were invited to apply for participation in the challenge by August 12, 2026, via email, social media, telephone, or Viber.

Through this joint initiative, Ekopak and KJKP RAD continue the development of the separate packaging waste collection system and promote the responsible management of glass packaging as an important step towards increasing recycling rates in Sarajevo.
