“Creativity Through Recycling”: Young People Learn About Packaging Waste Recycling Through Teamwork
As part of the event “Games Without Borders for Youth from Bosnia and Herzegovina,” held on June 23 at the Safet Zajko Centre for Education, Sports and Recreation in Sarajevo, which brought together 80 high school students from across Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ekopak partnered in the creative workshop “Creativity Through Recycling.”
As a project partner, Ekopak supported an educational activity designed to demonstrate the importance of proper packaging waste disposal and recycling through creativity, teamwork, and hands-on learning.
Eight teams were challenged to create a totem from different types of packaging waste based on the theme “Bridge,” symbolically representing the connection between people, ideas, and communities. During the creative process, participants were supported by two students from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, engaged by Ekopak, who, together with a volunteer from the SHL organization, formed the expert jury.
The entries were evaluated based on their connection to the assigned theme, creativity and originality, the use of recycled materials, and the quality and stability of the completed totems. Following the presentations, the most successful teams were selected and awarded.
Through the “Creativity Through Recycling” workshop, Ekopak demonstrated to young people that packaging waste is not waste when it is properly separated and used creatively. Activities like these contribute to the development of awareness about the importance of packaging waste recycling and show that environmental education can be engaging, interactive, and inspiring for young people.
