Ekopak hosted representatives of the CETAP project, including Mr. Scott Crossett, with whom we discussed key challenges and opportunities for improving the packaging waste management system in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The meeting focused on the development of the circular economy, increasing recycling rates, the role of authorities, industry, and citizens in advancing circular practices in BiH, as well as the contribution that packaging waste recycling makes to a circular economic model.

CETAP is a project dedicated to building a sustainable future in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a strong emphasis on waste recycling and the circular economy. CETAP aims to lay the foundations for a regenerative economic model that serves both people and the planet, reducing waste generation and dependence on imports. With an EU recycling rate of nearly 50%, the project highlights the need to further develop the system in our country. CETAP also supports local traditions of reuse and repair, reducing the need for new production and preserving resources.

During the meeting, Ekopak presented its operational model, practical experience, and potential areas for future collaboration, particularly in the development of infrastructure, education, and raising public awareness about the importance of proper disposal and recycling of packaging waste.

The interview was initiated after CETAP recognized Ekopak’s efforts as an example of best practice in packaging waste recycling and circular economy development, expressing the desire to showcase our work as part of its activities dedicated to promoting “local recycling heroes.”
