Ekopak in cooperation with the association Ekotim marked "European Waste Reduction Week"- Materials with information and bags were distributed to the citizens of Sarajevo

In cooperation with Ekopak and the Ministry of Physical Planning Construction and Environmental Protection of the KS, the association Ekotim marked the "European Waste Reduction Week" in Sarajevo Canton.

An organized action of the distribution of information materials and bags was held on Sunday in Sarajevo in order to highlight the problem of excessive waste generation as well as the need for greater support for separate waste collection and recycling systems.

In communication with citizens, we learned that citizens were pleased to welcome the installation of separate waste collection infrastructure and to gladly separate their waste into usable components, especially the younger generation. However, the fact that the contents of underground containers, with separately collected waste, are transported in the same truck looks discouraging though later is treated and further selected in the sorting plant.

The fact is that KS has been working to improve the capacity and system of separate waste collection in recent years. However, the quantities of waste sent for recycling and processing are negligible, only about 1% of the total amount of produced waste and disposed at landfill Smiljevići.
