NEWSLETTER FOR 2nd QUARTER OF 2021.

 

The second quarter was marked by the development of the regional project "Management of glass packaging in the Western Balkans" which Ekopak is implementing in cooperation with German Organization for International Cooperation (GIZ), National Alliance for Local Economic Development "Naled" from Serbia, system operators "Sekopak" from Serbia and "Pakomak" from Northern Macedonia. In this regard, the representatives of Ekopak visited pilot municipalities Konjic, Bihać and Novi Travnik, where, in addition to the Municipality of Ilidža, this project is being implemented in our country. The first quantities of glass packaging were also collected and according to the first indicators BiH is certainly moving towards the set goal of increasing recycling rate by 20% in this pilot municipalities.

Related to this project, we also recorded an interesting event in Novi Travnik, municipality that joined the project at the end of last year. Placed waste-bins for collecting glass packaging in urban and rural area of this municipality attracted the attention of local boys Jure and Marko Slišković who on their own initiative launched an action to collect glass packaging. For days, they visited the houses of their neighbors and diligently collected glass packaging waste, managed to collect 260 kg of glass packaging and filled one of the waste-bins for glass. This activity marked the first waste-bin for glass. with 100% collected waste glass packaging in Novi Travnik and in other local communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina where this project is being implemented. Their commitment to collecting glass packaging and preserving the environment in general did not go unnoticed, so at the celebration of the Day of the Municipality of Novi Travnik, Ekopak in cooperation with the Public Utility Company Vilenica-Čistoća and the Municipality of Novi Travnik rewarded the boys with special recognition and gifts.

Ekopak marked June 5, World Environment Day in a convenient way. In cooperation with the students form Student Center Bjelave Sarajevo we cleaned the green areas in front of the Center, planted a beautiful flower island and set up containers for separate collection of packaging waste so Student Center is now part of our recycling system.

Ekopak also supported the cleaning action on Bjelasnica and Igman mountains which was organized by KJP "ZOI 84" Sarajevo Olympic Center. A significant part of packaging and other waste was collected and handed over to the recycling process. On this occasion, Ekopak informed the volunteers about our activities related to the improvement of the recycling system in the Federation of BiH and rewarded the youngest volunteers who participated in waste collection with appropriate gifts.

In cooperation with the Municipality of Breza, Breza employers, students and other citizens from the area of ​​Breza, Ekopak participated in cleaning of city under the slogan "For our city - Brezo happy birthday to you."

Ekopak continues to support the international project Eco-schools implemented in BiH by the Association "Munja". This time, we supported the 8th State Competition for High School Students in Entrepreneurship which was of great interest to students throughout BiH.
