Welcome to our Newsletter - August 2013

August 2013 was a month marked by the preparation for implementing of the project of separate packaging waste collection in the Gračanica Municipality, which is going to be launched by Ekopak in cooperation with the Municipality and the public utility service Komus. By this project the municipality of Gračanica becomes one of the first municipalities in the Federation of BiH to implement the Ordinance on packaging waste management in BiH. The main objective of the project in the municipality of Gračanica is to establish a collecting, sorting, balling and recycling packaging waste system which should serve as a positive example of introducing a new way of waste and packaging waste recycling management to the other municipalities in Federation of BiH.

Focusing on the social networks and citizens that follow our work via our Facebook page, we had organized a prize photo contest for the best picnic photo. Many people took part in a month-long competition, and the first prize, rafting on the Neretva, was won by Sanja Srdić whose photo had 763 votes. The second prize, a photo camera, went to Marijana Saranović who received 646 votes for her photo. Consolation prizes went to Elvisa Džanić-Halilović, Darija Šarović-Skulj and Almina Halilović-Hasanamidžić. 

Members of the altruist NGO Svjetlo, the Old Town Municipality employees and Ekopak had organized an eco-action „Our Clean Yards – At Mejdan“ in which 50 volunteers participated and cleaned the At mejdan park and the park across the street from the Town Hall in the street Šahinagića. The primary objective of the action was creating a pleasant ambience in the parks as well as raising awareness of the citizens thorugh our own activities.

Through our general partnership, we have supported young and creative artists who have organized a workshop „Waste is Taste“ in Počitelj. In the workshop, they have developed creative ideas for reusing packaging waste through the medium of high fashion which were presented at the exhibition in the open air gallery of the Association for the Promotion of Cultural Creativity „MLAZ“. We have placed promotional waste bins for separate waste collection and we are very content with the visitors' responsiveness in Počitelj which proves that they are willing to accept the new way of packaging waste handling.
