NEWSLETTER FOR 2nd QUARTER OF 2023.

We want to inform you about our activities that marked this period.

The first important information is related to Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and recently published Rulebook on packaging and packaging waste management (Official Gazette of FBiH number: 27/23). The rulebook sets ambitious goals for recycling and recovery of packaging waste, which will increase from 37% to 45% in the period from 2023 to 2027.

Another important information is that Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina made a decision to establish a Coordinating Body to monitor Rulebook implementation for Management of Packaging and Packaging Waste. In addition to representatives of the Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Federal Administration for Inspection Affairs, FBiH Environmental Protection Fund and licensed PROs, one representative of Federal Ministry of Finance is also included. This decision highlights the importance of monitoring and implementing the new regulations.

During the second quarter, Ekopak continued to invest in development of packaging waste recycling systems to support our partners - packaging waste collectors. Namely, we continued to invest in the infrastructure of local communities in order to increase their capacity to collect, prepare for recycling and transport packaging waste. We co-financed the purchase of vehicles for the collection and transport of packaging waste for PUC Rad from Ključ and Ladanušić Čistoća from Posušje. Also, we provided bins for separate disposal of packaging waste for University Sarajevo Campus. In the presence of the mayor of Ključ municipality, Mr. Nedžad Zukanović with director PUC Rad Ključ, Muamer Egrlić we signed an agreement on co-financing the purchase of another vehicle this year.

Along with investing in infrastructure, we also continued with informative and educational workshops for children. In April we marked "Earth Day" with a series of activities starting with educational workshops for the youngest in Konjic on the topic "Importance of Recycling Packaging Waste". Together with students from School for Secondary Education and Work Training Sarajevo and in cooperation with PUC Park Sarajevo we planted seedlings in the school yard. In cooperation with the Municipality of Vitez and PUC Vitkom Vitez we organized educational and entertaining workshops for children. Also, we visited Aleksa Šantić Elementary School in Sarajevo and participated in Urban Agri Fest, which took place on University of Sarajevo Campus. A fun-educational workshop was held in elementary school "Porodice efendije Ramić" in Semizovac and together with PUC Rad and ZEOS, operator for electronic waste system we organized an interesting and educational gathering with children in recycling yard Sarajevo.

We proudly point out that we are committed to achieving our recycling and recovery targets of packaging waste and circular economy development in our country. Your support and cooperation are critical to success of our initiatives and we look forward to continue our successful collaboration in future quarters.

Thank you for being part of our community!

Until our next Newsletter, we warmly greet you and wish you a pleasant summer,

Amela Hrbat,
Ekopak Managing director
