EKOPAK NEWSLETTER FOR DECEMBER 2014
End of the year was marked as the beginning of numerous and significant projects in Ekopak.
Considering that our everyday work is focused on the establishment of a transparent, efficient and long-term system for recycling and recovery of packaging waste, during December, cooperation with the municipalities of Vitez, Novi Travnik, Vogošća and Posušje is established.
By signing contracts, in cooperation with these municipalities, Ekopak is obligated to finance:
- In Vitez Municipality: waste bins for the establishment of 10 eco-islands for selective disposal of packaging waste and vehicle for the transport of the collected packaging waste,
- In Novi Travnik Municipality: waste bins that will be placed in front of all schools and kindergartens and vehicle for the transport of the collected packaging waste,
- In Vogošća Municipality, first municipality in Sarajevo Canton: waste bins for the establishment of 7 eco-islands that will be illuminated by solar energy which is the first such example in B&H,
- In Posušje Municipality: waste bins for the establishment of 6 eco-islands and waste bins that will be placed in front of all schools and kindergartens.
All of packaging waste collected will be prepared and transported to recycling in cooperation with utility companies and authorized waste collectors. Ekopak will also conduct educational and promotional activities in these municipalities, to raise citizens' awareness about the proper disposal of packaging waste and the importance of establishing a system in our country modeled on the experiences and practices of other states members of PRO EUROPE.
Promotion of the international Green Dot trademark is one of the projects started in December. The key message to citizens is an invitation to purchase products with this sign and in that way contributes to environmental protection. Therefore, the key message to packaging companies is to use the Green Dot sign on the packaging of their products which indicates that these companies finance the establishment of system for recycling and reuse of packaging waste via Ekopak.
By fulfilling the high criteria and requirements prescribed, Ekopak become member of PRO EUROPE - the European umbrella packaging recovery organization headquartered in Brussels. We invite packaging companies to download the Green Dot Guidebook since the Green Dot sign is the sign of their social responsibility.
In addition to these projects, in December Ekopak conducted educational and promotional activities. An event for kids was organized on the occasion of the Day of Children's Joy in Zenica. Another event for kids was organized in Mostar where the educational theater play „Recycling is not a hassle“ was staged. In Cazin Ekopak was present at the first International Business Fair. Activities of Ekopak were also presented at the National Conference on the disposal of municipal solid waste, held in Sarajevo, organized by the Swedish government.
In December Ekopak also organized media briefing in order to present the contest for journalistic contribution to informing the public and promoting the significance and importance of establishing the Green Dot system in B&H.
A very challenging year as with many successful activities is behind of us, but we have big plans for the 2015 as well.
