Ekopak Newsletter June 2014

Dear clients and associates of Ekopak,

Welcome to our Newsletter for June 2014!

During the month of June we have, in addition to our regular activities, held an interesting workshop in Herzegovina and we were dedicated to the completion of our two major projects.

In early June, in Široki Brijeg, we held a workshop for clients of Ekopak from municipalities Široki Brijeg, Ljubuški, Grude, and Čitluk. The primary objective of this workshop is to give our clients closer look on topic of the establishment system of the management of packaging and packaging waste, as well as to transparently present work of Ekopak. Experiences in the establishment of the system in Croatia was presented by Mrs.Dragica Bagarić, director of Eko Ozra from Zagreb. Mrs.Tanja Miljanović, from Swisslion Ltd. Food Industry Trebinje, which is a client of Ekopak, presented the method of report preparation on packaging waste and the experience of cooperation with Ekopak.

We’ve ended our Project „Planet's Smile is in Your Hands“ in Sarajevo and by that we have marked the June 5th  - Worlds Environment Day. This event was organized at the Youth Theatre in Sarajevo. Around 350 children had a chance to see the play called "Recycling is Not a Hassle". On this occasion, we declared the most successful schools that were competing in the amounts of collected packaging waste, as part of this project, which has started with the previous school year. The winner of this competition is Sixth Primary School Ilidža, with its total of 5.370 kg of packaging waste. By that they have won our Firs Award. The Second place was won by „Nafija Sarajlić“ Primary School, and the Third place was won by “Catholic Schooling Centre - General High School”.

The income from the humanitarian and ecological project “Buy the Eco Brick” is handed over to Association “Heart for Cancer Struggling Children” in FBiH, to build a house near the hospital in Sarajevo for parents of the children to stay in. Bricks are used to build recycling bins for waste separation which are installed on the area of Sarajevo ZOO.

We've provided the necessary infrastructure to JP "Komunalac" from Kladanj  for the establishment of a system of separate collection of packaging waste in this municipality. Infrastructure handover ceremony was attended by Mr.Jusuf Čavkunović - the mayor of Kladanj Municipality, Mrs.Suvada Kavazović - the director of JP "Komunalac" from Kladanj and Amela Hrbat - the director of Ekopak.

Ekopak provided to JP "Komunalac", containers of 1100 liters for the establishment of two eco-islands, also we've provided 40 waste-bins for selection of packaging waste, as well as 120 waste-punnets for selection of packaging waste in all school classrooms.

With all of these activities that we have, our focus still stays on collection of all kinds of packaging waste, considering the obligation to recycle all kinds of packaging waste: plastic, paper, metal, glass, multilayer materials, packaging with hazardous materials. With our collectors, we’ve organized collection and recycling target achieving for this year.

More details for each activity mentioned can be seen below.

Yours respectfully,

Ekopak team
