Within project Aid for Trade- “Waste Management, waste sources, packaging and further manipulation”, funded by Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, on Thursday 01 November 2012 in hotel “Hercegovina” Ilidža, workshop was held on the topic of packaging waste management.

Participants of the workshop were Mr. Petr Šikýř, Client Department Director of Ekokom- the Czech system operator, Mr. Martin Koler, representative of Ekosystem, the Czech company that implements activities in the sector of waste water management and environment protection, as well as representatives of Federal Ministry of Tourism and Environment, Mr. Edin Terzić, Minister Adviser, Mr. Mehmed Cero, Assistant Minister in the Department of Environment and Mrs. Azra Bašić, Expert Associate in Federal Ministry of Tourism and Environment.

Having in mind that the Federal Ministry of Tourism and Environment used good experience and support of the Czech Republic in the process of creating the Ordinance on Packaging and Packaging Waste of FB&H, this was another opportunity to present all the advantages of the packaging waste management system, that is managed by the principle of “extended producer responsibility” by those who place packaging or packaging products on the market- packaging producers, importers, fillers, distributors and outmost providers, through an operator that:

can be established by packaging producers, importers, fillers, distributors and outmost providers;

- must be non-profit;

- cannot have its own waste management infrastructure;

Workshop was opened by presentation of Mr. Šikýř on the Czech model of packaging and packaging waste management, as well as on good experience of the Czech Republic that can be implemented for creating efficient and sustainable system operator in B&H. Mr. Šikýř presented  ways of system functioning in B&H having in mind its administrative organization.

Taking into consideration that founders of Ekopak used experience of the Czech Republic, that is proven to have the most efficient system operator in Europe, through a brief presentation on knowledge gained within recently organized study visit to Ekokom, Ekopak presented characteristics of the Czech model of packaging waste management that can be implemented in B&H.
