On Tuesday, 19 February 2013, meeting of key participants in implementation of Federal Ordinance on Packaging and Packaging Waste management was held in Federal Ministry of Environment and Tourism. The meeting was attended by minister Branka Đurić and her associates, representatives of Environment Protection Fund of FB&H, representatives of Federal Administration of Inspection Issues, representatives of The Economic- Social Council of FB&H and General Manager of Ekopak, authorized system operator of packaging waste management in FB&H.

Subject of the meeting was exchange of relevant information in order to establish better mechanism of implementation of the Federal Ordinance. The Ordinance was put in force in January 2012, defining legal responsibilities for all economic subjects that place packaging or packaged products on the territory of FB&H to join the system through authorized system operator or by paying packaging fees to the Environment Protection Fund of FB&H.

During the meeting, General Manager of Ekopak presented preliminary results and achievements for 2012, as well as system obligors and packaging amounts, for which Ekopak took over managing responsibility in 2012. Final report for 2012 will be submitted in accordance with the legally defined deadline by the Article 21 of the Ordinance, i.e. 31 March 2013.

Responsibilities of packaging producers, importers, distributors, fillers and merchants cannot be avoided. By delaying to join to system, responsibilities only accumulate. Economic subjects that have not signed contract with Ekopak in 2012 have the responsibility to submit  report to the Fund. Economic subjects that have not  joined the system through Ekopak, or submitted report to the Fund will be a subject of activities of relevant inspection bodies.

In addition, other conclusions have been made on measures that will be undertaken in order to intensify implementation of Federal Ordinance in 2013, and also to ensure conditions for system development in FB&H, in accordance with the most efficient systems established in European countries.
